How much does it cost to transport a wheelchair?

A folding manual chair starts from £1.25 per mile in a car with a £55 minimum job. Powered chairs are heavier and usually go in a small or short-wheelbase van, from £1.45 or £1.60 per mile with £65 and £70 minimums, occasionally with a ramp or tail lift.

Why is a powered chair more expensive to move?

Weight and handling. A powered chair can weigh over 100kg with its batteries, which often means a larger vehicle, a ramp or tail lift, and a two-person crew at £30 or 25% extra, whichever is greater.

How is the chair protected?

Blankets over the frame, upholstery and controller, straps to the van's load points, and nothing stacked on top. The driver photographs the chair at collection and at delivery so its condition at each stage is documented.

Do you move chairs to and from hospitals, care homes and repairers?

Yes, and it is common work — chairs going for repair or reassessment, chairs following a patient discharge, and chairs bought or sold privately. Tell us the ward, department or site contact and any access rules.

How quickly can a wheelchair be moved?

Same-day collection windows are typically 60–90 minutes from confirmation, subject to driver availability. If someone is without their chair, say so when you book and we will tell you honestly what is achievable.

Is the chair insured in transit?

The allocated driver holds driver goods-in-transit cover normally up to £5,000, while Taylors Courier Service Ltd's contractual liability is capped separately at £250 under our Terms and Conditions. Cover is subject to policy terms, exclusions, packaging, declared value, evidence of value and the claims procedure. Declare a chair worth more than £5,000 before collection so additional insurance can be arranged.

Do you service, repair or set up wheelchairs?

No. We transport chairs and deliver them into the agreed room where access allows. We do not repair, adjust, charge or configure mobility equipment.
