Self-Employed Subcontractor Agreement
Agreement Overview
This Driver Agreement ("Agreement") is entered into between Taylors Courier Service Ltd ("Company", "Platform", "we", "us") and you ("Driver", "you", "your") as a self-employed subcontractor providing courier and delivery services through our platform.
Important — Self-Employed Status: You are engaging as a self-employed subcontractor, not an employee or worker. This Agreement does not create an employment relationship. You are responsible for your own tax obligations (including income tax and National Insurance), insurance, vehicle expenses, and all aspects of running your own courier business. You have the right to accept or decline work, set your own hours, and provide services to other courier platforms.
Driver Requirements & Verification
Mandatory Requirements
To work as a driver on our platform, you must:
- • Be at least 21 years old
- • Hold a valid UK driving license (minimum 2 years)
- • Possess valid vehicle insurance (business use / courier cover)
- • Provide proof of identity (passport or UK driving license)
- • Have a roadworthy vehicle suitable for courier work
- • Pass a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check
- • Complete platform onboarding and training
Required Documentation
Identity Documents
- • Valid UK driving license
- • Passport or national ID
Vehicle Documents
- • Vehicle insurance certificate
- • MOT certificate (if applicable)
- • Vehicle registration (V5C)
All documents must be valid and renewed before expiry. Failure to maintain valid documentation will result in immediate suspension.
Insurance & Liability
Mandatory Insurance Coverage
You must maintain the following insurance coverage at all times while using the platform:
- • Motor Insurance: Business use or courier insurance covering goods in transit
- • Public Liability Insurance: Minimum £1 million coverage
- • Goods in Transit Insurance: Coverage for parcels up to declared value
Critical: Insurance Verification
Driving without valid insurance is illegal and will result in immediate account termination and legal action. You are solely responsible for ensuring your insurance coverage is valid and appropriate for courier work.
Payments & Earnings
Commission Structure
Earnings are calculated based on the following commission structure:
Express Deliveries
70%
Driver keeps 70% of delivery fee
Platform fee: 30%
Flexible Deliveries
80%
Driver keeps 80% of delivery fee
Platform fee: 20%
Payment Schedule
- • Stripe Connect: Instant payouts available once Stripe onboarding is complete
- • Standard Payouts: Weekly batch payments every Monday for previous week's completed deliveries
- • Minimum Payout: £20 threshold for weekly payouts
Tax & Self-Employment
As an independent contractor, you are responsible for:
- • Registering as self-employed with HMRC
- • Paying your own income tax and National Insurance
- • Keeping accurate records of earnings and expenses
- • Submitting annual self-assessment tax returns
Taylors Courier Service does not deduct tax or National Insurance from your earnings. You must manage your own tax obligations.
Professional Conduct & Standards
Expected Standards
- • Professionalism: Maintain courteous, respectful behavior with customers at all times
- • Punctuality: Arrive within agreed collection and delivery windows
- • Communication: Keep customers informed of any delays or issues
- • Care: Handle all parcels with appropriate care to prevent damage
- • Accuracy: Collect and deliver to correct addresses with proper verification
- • Documentation: Obtain photo evidence and signatures where required
Prohibited Conduct
The following actions will result in immediate suspension or termination:
- • Theft or misappropriation of parcels
- • Rude, aggressive, or inappropriate behavior
- • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- • Operating without valid insurance or license
- • Accepting jobs without intention to complete them
- • Fraudulent activity or false documentation
- • Subcontracting jobs without authorization
- • Soliciting customers for off-platform work
Performance Metrics & Suspension
Driver performance is monitored based on the following metrics:
- • Job acceptance rate
- • On-time pickup and delivery rate
- • Customer satisfaction ratings
- • Job cancellation rate
- • Professional conduct reports
Consistently poor performance or policy violations may result in warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent removal from the platform.
Termination
Either party may terminate this Agreement at any time with 7 days' written notice. Immediate termination may occur for:
- • Material breach of this Agreement
- • Criminal activity
- • Loss of required licenses or insurance
- • Serious safety violations
- • Fraudulent conduct
