How much does it cost to transport a mobility scooter?

From £1.45 per mile in a small van with a £65 minimum job for a boot or travel scooter. Larger class 3 road scooters usually need a short or long-wheelbase van (from £1.60 or £1.95 per mile, with £70 and £85 minimums) or a tail-lift vehicle. A two-person crew adds £30 or 25%, whichever is greater.

What affects the price most?

The scooter's weight and whether it dismantles, the distance, whether a ramp or tail lift is needed, and the access at each end — a first-floor flat with no lift changes the crew required, and therefore the price.

Do you dismantle the scooter?

We will separate a scooter that is designed to come apart into its intended sections (seat, battery pack, base) where the owner is happy for us to do so. We do not carry out mechanical work, remove fixed components or reassemble anything beyond the manufacturer's intended sections.

How is the battery handled?

Batteries must be undamaged. Where the design allows, remove the battery pack and let it travel alongside the scooter rather than connected. We cannot accept damaged, swollen or leaking batteries.

Can you collect from a mobility shop, hospital or auction?

Yes. Give us the site reference, any collection window the site requires and a contact there. The scooter is photographed at loading so its condition on collection is recorded.

Is the scooter insured in transit?

The allocated driver holds driver goods-in-transit cover normally up to £5,000, and Taylors Courier Service Ltd's contractual liability is capped separately at £250 under our Terms and Conditions. Cover depends on policy terms, exclusions, packaging, declared value, evidence of value and the claims procedure. Declare a scooter worth more than £5,000 before collection so additional insurance can be arranged.

Can it be delivered indoors?

We deliver into the room agreed, subject to confirmed access, where the crew quoted can do so safely. We do not install, charge, test or set up mobility equipment.
